Arri Meta Extract is a new software tool released by Arri today, and if you love working in Terminal, you might find it really cool. As for me, not a programmer, I went through the release notes, followed as many commands as I could, and got… nowhere. The program is essentially a way to pull the frame by frame meta data (pitch, roll, lens data) from Alexa Plus cameras as well as all the other camera settings used directly from the .mov file. It will also extract the Look File data. This creates a lot of potential for automation and integration into a post workflow and VFX. The user interface for the casual user is not as simple as their similar product Clip Meta Viewer, available only through the Apple App store. I did find it interesting that the release notes mentioned GPS Data as future potential. Does this mean Arri is going to offer a GPS option? Please comment if you have a chance to use the software.
